Most men will have prostate problems. That's a fact. Anyone who is over 40 is prone to what is called as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This is one of the most prevalent prostate problems in older men.

The prostate is a small organ about the size of a walnut. It surrounds the urethra which is the tube through which urine flows. If it becomes inflamed, it may cause problems with urination. Below are the typical symptoms associated with prostate problems like BPH.

Healthy Diet Prevent prostate problems by having a healthier diet. Reduce the intake of foods rich in saturated oil, red meat, and snacks. Try to avoid foods that have too much sugar, too. Ideally, you should eat more vegetables and plant-based protein. Vitamin and mineral supplements are not bad but shouldn't be seen as an effective preventive measure for prostate problems on its own.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Omega-3 deserves special attention because of its significant contribution to the prevention of prostate problems. You can find Omega-3 fatty acids in fish, nuts and eggs. A daily serving of these is good enough to get the right dosage of Omega-3 fatty acids. This translates to about 3 to 6 grams a day. Omega-3 has been shown to stop the chemical which is believed to trigger a number of prostate problems.

Monitor DHT Level Testosterone is the main hormone which makes men who they are. Unfortunately, it is also the main culprit in most prostate problems. Well, perhaps not directly. Testosterone can be converted to DHT which is an extremely strong stimulant for the growth of prostate tissue. DHT is usually the main cause of BPH. Testosterone is transformed into DHT with the help of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. Not only does this enzyme make DHT but it also removes testosterone from men.

Reducing 5-alpha reductase will significantly reduce the chances of men suffering from prostate problems like BPH. Currently, the best way to reduce 5-alpha reductase is by taking natural supplements in the form of plant sterols. Ingredients to look for in these supplements include saw palmetto, pygeum, and pumpkin seed.
